A one of a kind Olin Stephens creation, ÆTHEREUS is a fractionally rigged S&S yawl that has been restored and rebuilt by a professional boat builder. Over 5000 hours were invested renovating, innovating and creating features found only on a very few fine yachts.

This unique vessel is now offered for a discriminating owner with an appreciation for the beauty of a CCA type traditional yacht, and the understanding of the maintenance associated with fiberglass construction.

Douglass and McLeod approached Sparkman & Stephens in 1959, asking them to design a MORC (Midget Ocean Racing Class) boat. Olin Stephens drew a 28' 8" centerboard yawl whose design was accepted by the builders. At this point the project was turned over to Bill Shaw in the S&S firm to continue work with the builders.

During the course of meeting the clients desires, the original design was revised into a 27' sloop. The modified design became the popular Tartan 27, with over 700 built.

The current owner began work in 1994, and in close association with the late Olin Stephens, commenced to return hull #6 to Stephens' original MORC design, none of which were originally constructed.

ÆTHEREUS has proven faster than stock T 27's, and now has a modern interior suitable for either racing or extended cruising. Due to his advancing age, the owner/builder is now offering this exquisite and unique Olin Stephens documented vessel for sale. With a teak transom, varnished faux spruce spars, and many custom features, ÆTHEREUS is often the queen of the harbor.

Dead wood area around propellor shaft was reworked to traditional wooden boat shape, refining full water flow to prop.

Much of described interior and exterior is custom built to suit modern cruising or racing styles. For example, portlights are custom designed and placed to enhance aesthetics. Most work has been documented with photographs.
